MARRIAGE

Marriage is an extreme sense of friendship.
It is a legal union between a man and a woman made valid by payment of the bride price after observing the proceeding lay down procedures stipulated by the girls’ tradition. It requires eligibility and preparedness for success to be guaranteed.
Eligibility has to do with age as well as other qualification such as being single and unmarried without an existing lawful marriage for Christian marriage.
Readiness or preparedness has to do with a lot of other factors and which includes
- Requisite conviction and disposition.
- Personal maturity
- Economic factors
- Home keeping.
While it is obvious that most intending couples are eligible, it is also true that some are ill prepared for the challenges of marriage. The result is that many unavoidable problems are experienced.
We shall now discuss these factors.




AGE/BIOLOCIAL FACTORS
In our contemporary society, unlike in the yester years , the age range for marriage for both young men and girls has changed. Today, while most men marry the age of 30 and 40 , most girls get married between the age of 18 and 35.
Although, there is no fixed age for getting married when one comes of age, marriage should be neither two early nor too late.
Being of age does not necessarily mean that you are ready for marriage. Other factors have to be considered.

REQUISITE CONVICTION AND DISPOSITION.
You cannot claim to be ready for marriage without knowing the following.
- That marriage is full of ups and down and be kindly disposed to accept its tenets as well as its challenges.
- That marriage is life enduring covenant between a man and a woman and no party has the right to destroy it. Therefore, it is instituted and sealed by God.
- It is for better for worse – This means that you should be disposed to accept the good / pleasant moments as well as painful /trying times.
- That the primary goal of marriage is the good of the spouse and the procreation and education of children”
- That you {woman} will leave your home to another home and you may not have been or heard of before and become a part of the home. This calls for preparedness not only being a woman or attaining a certain age level. Get ready and get educated.
- That you {man} has possessed three families – your family, that of your parents and your in-laws and so many other that may need your support. Get ready and get money.
